PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The huge interest in our extraordinary Böker Tirpitz Damascus for years convinced us to design another model with the historical Damascus steel . Compared to the original model, the significantly more compact Böker Barlow Prime Tirpitz Damascus impresses not only in the collector's showcase, but also as a pocket-sized gentleman's knife. The blade is made of the unique Tirpitz damask, has a modern, elongated ricasso and is opened with a nail cut. The sister ship of the legendary Bismarck was the largest battleship ever launched for the German Navy.
Immediately after the end of the Second World War, a Norwegian specialist company began cannibalizing the ship, which had sunk off the Norwegian coast, in order to make the high-alloy steel available for civil use. Norwegian divers recovered parts of the Tirpitz's special armor for Boker from the fjord. From these pieces of living history, the Böker damask blacksmith exclusively forges an extraordinary damask with a fascinating history. The large pyramid pattern in 200 layers characterizes the hand-forged Damascus blade and makes the knife a highlight of every knife collection. The combination of Tirpitz steel with carbon tool steels also results in an extremely durable damask that has a Rockwell hardness from 61 to 63 HRC is up to every task in everyday use.
The operational safety of the historic slip joint pocket knife is further increased by a 90 degree detent when opening and closing. The characteristic teardrop shape of the Barlow can be traced back to the English pocket knives of the 17th century, making it one of the oldest models of all. The name of the classic probably goes back to a business-minded knife manufacturer of the same name from Sheffield who began to export the robust knives to North America around 1800. There they immediately enjoyed great popularity and so the first Barlow models appeared in the history of the Boker Manufactory at the end of the 19th century.
