Hand-forged knife blade by the swedish blade smith Bengt-Olof Tallroth

The blade is made from AEB-L stainless steel which is known for its fine grain structure, excellent edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is particularly favored for its ability to take a very sharp edge and maintain it under use. The blade has got a deep-freeze or cryogenic treatment that involves cooling the steel to extremely low temperatures (typically around -196°C or -320°F) after the initial heat treatment. This process enhances the steel’s hardness, toughness, and wear resistance by transforming retained austenite into martensite and refining the carbide structure.
