Stabilized natural Moabi Pommele scales

Stabilized wood are pieces infused with resin to become resistant to water and general wear. Stabilized wood will not shrink or crack, yet it can easily be shaped with conventional wood-working tools or CNC machines. Colours penetrate all the way through the wood, unlike traditional stains or dyes.

Size aprox: 150x45x10 mm,   two pieces.

Moabi Pommele heartwood is a rather uniform pinkish brown, sometimes darker reddish brown. Colour tends to darken with age. Figured grain patterns are also seen, such as pommele, quilted, mottled, and beeswing.

Generally easy to work with hand or machine tools, though figured wood is much more prone to chipping and tear out in machining operations. Also, Moabi has a high silica content, and will rapidly dull cutting edges, especially tool steel. Turns, glues, and finishes well. Responds well to steam bending.
